So I have a dual-quad-core MacPro. 2 Threads per core, for 16 threads. This program only uses ONE thread of ONE core, of ONE processor. Seems if you want to benchmark a system, you should benchmark the SYSTEM, not a single thread of the system. Pretty cool, and would be really useful if they updated it to make it multi-threaded/multi-core capable.

:]

Good, quick benchmark tests. You can go online after finished to compare and share your results as well.

needs more

wish it could tell you things too speed your computer or scan for unneccesary things to turn off.

If you want benchmarking to know how fast your machine really is, you should take a look at GeekBench. This tool isnt all that great on multi-threaded benchmarking, which means itll tell you that a Core i7 800 series processor (4 cores with hyper-threading and a 3+ GHz clock speed) isnt much faster than a Core i5 dual-core mobile processor (2 core with hyper-threading and a 2.5 GHz clock speed). GeekBench will point out the difference in performance.

Pros: • Free • Mac OS and Windows • Measures CPU, RAM, GPU, and Hard Drive speed • Results comparison site Cons: • GPU benchmark scores are currently not comparable between Mac OS and Windows • Takes into account storage capacity which is not a standard means for benchmarking • Windows version gets overflow error on Interger test and is unable to complete it

:( MacPro 1,1 Model Name:Mac Pro Model Identifier:MacPro1,1 Processor Name:Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed:2.66 GHz Number Of Processors:2 Total Number Of Cores:4 L2 Cache (per processor):4 MB Memory:4 GB MenuMeters showed only 1 of 4 cores being used. Xbench for now, but keep up the good work guys!

This app is pretty nice for benchmarking but does has some flaws, one major one actually that stops me from giving it a better rating. The Good CPU, and Video card benchmarks seem pretty right on. The Bad HD Benchmarks are total bogus. When does HD size effect performance??? I have an SSD as my boot drive and get a super low score based on size, not speed of the drive, which is 237MB/s. My MacBook has a 640g HD with a 63MB/s speed and gets a better score. Whhaaatt??? I cannot tell if the RAM suffers from the same problem as I dont have two machines that have the same amount of RAM that are totally different in speed.

I downloaded this to test my hard disks. In the description it was advertised that I could test the write speed of primary or selected storage device. But I couldnt figure out how to tell it to test the speed of my other storage device. All it could test was the primary storage device, i.e. the Macintosh HD. Also I just tested my new iMac 27" with core i7 processor and uploaded the result to their website. On the website they show Verified NovaBench score" which is lower than the NovaBench score displayed in the app. What is the explanation for this?

Ive run this thing a few times, and it is yet to use more than 100% cpu of one core. I dont know how it plans to mesure the full power of my CPU with out using all 8 cores on both cpus? ive heard it performs a hidden internet speed test. the ram test nore the HD tests dont take into compairision lag time. also, hasnt been upgraded for lion, which although might not be bad, it still could work better with the OS. it could close all the apps safely when it runs, and then reopen them safely when its done. Like my review to get the developers attention and make this app compeat with cinebench

I upgraded a 2008 Mac Pro w/ 8GB RAM, SSD drive, and ATI Radeon HD 5770 and wanted to see if I was in about the right ballpark performance wise. This app told me just what I needed to know.

nice app

1041 points for my MacBook Pro 15 (Late 2011)

antihazard · 14 years ago

The features list says it will perform a benchmark on "...primary or selected disk…". I bought this to do a benchmark on an external drive. No dice!!! Theres no way (as far as I can tell) how to select any drive - the main drive seems to be selected by default. Theres no users manual, in the app or on the website. Something tells me the advertised description of this app is for the Windows version, not the Mac version. Id like to get my money back.

Problem recognize Mbp Nvidia gpu.

I have Mbp retina . with dual gpus. The problem is that ths app do not recognize the nvidia, only the intel integrated 4000.

Awesome app!

used it a lot! on my ipad and mac! feeling good!

TheFallOfTheDead · 13 years ago

It worked, but I would have liked to check disk speeds on all disks. Dont see any way to select a particular hard disk for testing. I have 4 internal disks (including a RAID 0 array) and 5 external, so of limited value for this particular test. Test result on my Mac Pro 5.1 was 1528.

Inaccurate for CPU

I was watching my CPU activity durring the test, and it was only utilizing ONE THREAD! My i7 has EIGHT threads! This test is rubbish.

Zerxies1992 · 12 years ago

Single core?

The CPU tests are all single-core, which is insane. So a 12 core and a 1 core Mac running at the same speed get the same CPU score. Why bother?

grosseteste · 12 years ago

This was my first bench test, so I don’t have another software to compare it to. I was looking at running a test on my Mac before installing RAM. App was quick and clean, very ease to use.
